TV

Both of my professors are fond of the "you kids today don't read enough!" speech. I've heard it pretty much every day I've attended class this semester, which is another reason to consider not going (just kidding! I'm going for the perfect attendance award, I am...)
So then the kids in my class are all "books are stupid, yo!" and then my professors morph into either
Edward James Olmos or
Michelle Pfeiffer, and then we all start rapping about poetry and dancing in unison. It's great.
Seriously though, I do seem to be the only one among my classmates that reads books. But I've thought about it and I don't think the reason I read has much to do with my age or my upbringing or educational background, which is roughly the same as my classmates. It has to do with the fact that I'm a huge nerd.
And also, that I'm a huge hater.
I don't think books are superior to television, necessarily. If I was being generous, I think I'd say that I enjoy maybe, uh, 2% of the books, tv shows, music, and movies that are out there. The difference with books and movies versus television and radio is that I get a choice in which ones I watch and when. If I have a hundred channels (I don't), and I can't find one show that that I like on any of those 100 channels (usually all it takes is the inclusion of a Cylon or a Dalek), I'm not going to watch TV anyway. I'll probably put in a DVD I requested from Netflix or read a book I reserved from the library. Same with the radio. Also, I'm not crazy about being advertised to. So there's that.
(Also, here's me, not crazy about 98% of TV shows and radio stations, so Apple goes and creates
this little guy, and now I can watch whatever shows I download from the iTunes store --
Battlestar Galactica! -- on my high def TV! Which I don't own yet. Whatever.)
Since this is turning into the bloggiest blog I ever blogged, I'll wrap this up by saying that
Gilmore Girls premieres next week, and we'll probably be watching that, but I will not stay tuned for
Veronica Mars. Unless, you know, the Cylons show up.
