Los Pinos
We spent Sunday with zeMadre and zePadre, checking out the land they recently bought. It's in a really nice, green, secluded stretch of Texas. I'm editing together the video I recorded but in the meantime, here's a snippet:
At the moment there's a lot of brush, thorns, spiderwebs, mud, and mosquitos, but the tall pine trees and my folks' enthusiasm is enough to make you fall in love with it. My mom is doling out acres to each of us...guest house for me and zeWife, playground for the grandkids, disc golf course for my brother. (Since we just played Carcassonne with our pals the night before, my eyes kept looking for spots to put my city, my road, my cloister...)
On the way home we ate at the Hofbrau Steakhouse in New Caney -- there was a huge chicken fried steak on a billboard calling out to me, man -- and we made plans to see it again. It'll take years before the land looks like the family ranch my dad has in his head, but I'm really happy and excited about this new adventure of theirs.
