Hot Damask
zeWife and I were thumbing through a Martha Stewart magazine and discussing the pros and cons of
damask, (manly activity, I know) back in December, and while she didn't quite persuade me on it then, a month later as we walked through Ikea and she picked up a new duvet cover, she sold me on the idea of repeating the pattern throughout the bedroom.
Her idea was to cover a dresser in our bedroom that has glass doors with the flower pattern. Of course I was skeptical, but I trust her. How could I not? I scanned a couple of the flowers and took them to work, where my intention was to convert them into vector images so I could cut them on my plotter.
Now I'm a lazy guy, and tracing these images in Illustrator was sure to be a laborious and time-consuming task, so I sent my scans to India instead. In less than 24 hours
OfficeTiger.com had sent me back great vector images and I was ready to cut.
Here's a picture of one of my droids, Marley. He cuts vinyl. Say "hi", Marley.
Yeah, so anyway. I cut the patterns out on a frosted "etched-glass" style adhesive vinyl. zeWife's idea was to block out the towels and shirts that we were going to fill the dresser with, so behind the frosted flower patterns was going to be a brown overlay, also vinyl. It's good stuff.
I brought all my supplies home with me Wednesday night, and as zeWife was home sick the next two days I left the vinyl weeding and application for her to enjoy in the morning (I'm serious, it's a lot of fun).
So here's the final product. I think it looks great and soon I think we're going to use the same pattern on small canvases to hang up around the bedroom.
Sold on damask, yes I am, but don't talk to me about
toile. I have my limits.
